World Toilet Summit?

Reading about Potty parity and the world toilet summit, I sometimes wonder if these guys have too much time in life…

While we’re on this topic, my sister told me a joke about the autorickshaw (3 wheeler cabs in India) driver in Bangalore, who thought that Infosys made most of its money from the pay-per-use toilets the wife of the chairman built as a public service :-)

Jimmy Carter

I had the privilege to listen to President Jimmy Carter (almost) in person yesterday. He’s doing a book tour and was talking about various things from poverty and disease to fundamentalism. But the thing that really struck me was his observation:

As the chasm between the rich and the poor widens (the rich got 20 times more rich in the last 100 years) and the poor get access to more information (say through cheap access to the web), it makes them very angry. And in the most desperate cases, they might want to lash out at the rich who seem to be so oblivious about their plight.

Topless in Kerala?

When men visit temples in kerala, they’re required to take shirts off and wear a mundu. So I was surprised to see that most men in Veega Land (a themepark in Kerala) were in the pool with a T-shirt on.

It’s also fun to see women in saris and churidaars walking around in pools and getting wet.
